SYDNEY PICKET DEMANDS FREEDOM FOR THE LEADERSHIP OF GOLDEN DAWN

A picket of the Greek Consul-General in Sydney held yesterday demanded freedom for the leadership of Golden Dawn in Greece.  The leadership of the popular Greek nationalist party are held on a spurious conviction that they constituted a ‘criminal organisation’, something akin to a mafia-like crime racket.

The leaders have been imprisoned since October 2020, after a Greek court rejected the submission of the prosecution that the evidence did not sustain the criminal organisation charge – and convicted them anyway.

It is widely considered, even by critics of Golden Dawn, that the conviction was political, given the pressure of local politicians and power-players and the U.S. State Department on the court.

The Sydney picket was initiated by the Australia First Party and had the support of local friends of Golden Dawn. It was viewed by lunchtime shoppers. There were no incidents.

Other actions will be carried out in Australia over the next few months to highlight the position of the Greek political prisoners.

Free the Golden Dawn political prisoners!
